After informing your work coach of your situation, they will tell you which “work-related activity group” you will be in. Each group has different tasks to prepare for work – they could apply for positions or update your CV. If you rent privately, you must prove how much rent you pay and what your landlord`s address is – take your rental agreement or an up-to-date rent count. Write online in your journal after viewing the helpline. Write down what you agreed so you can mention it later. You must agree on the tasks you must perform in return for a universal credit, the so-called “applicant`s obligation.” You accept this with your work coach during your job interview and sign if you agree. If you are self-employed, the income limit does not apply to you. You are not expected to do activities in the job centre or look for a job. However, you could be affected by the minimum income threshold, which is also calculated on the basis of your obligation if you had not been independent. You enter into an agreement called a “claim commitment” with your work coach. If you recently have domestic violence, bereavement or any other good reason for not being able to do what your work coach expects of you, you should tell your work coach.
If you don`t feel that your claim commitment takes your needs into account, seek advice. If you do not meet your obligations or what you have agreed in your claim obligation, your universal credit could be stopped or reduced. This is called a sanction. This could be your credit card or an account statement. If you don`t have bank statements, you can ask your bank for one – you may have to pay a small fee. If you don`t have a lease, ask your landlord for a copy of the contract or a letter containing the details of your contract. Tell the person you are talking to if you have had problems with proof of your identity online. They`ll tell you what to take. Every time you fill something out of your to-do list, you can find it in the “Journal” section. It`s so you have a record of what you`ve done.
It is important to be as open and honest as possible about your situation, so that your work coach understands what you can do and what you can`t do. Your interview is with your “work coach” – this is the person you meet regularly as part of your application. During the job interview, they will check your data and ask you to accept your “applicant obligation,” which will determine the tasks you will perform regularly to obtain a universal credit. There are different levels of sanctions and they are based on what you have done and how many times. The length of the sanctions depends on what you did not do and the number of times you did not assume your responsibilities for no good reason. They will help and challenge you to exploit your potential and help you increase your expectations of what you can achieve.
